Benue Governorship: Ripples, agitation in PDP

Date:

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Crisis seem to be brewing in the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in Benue State over the recent zoning of the Governorship seat to a particular intermediate area in the State.

Recall that leaders of the party including the State Governor Samuel Ortom, National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as well as former Governor and Senator representing Benue North East Senatorial District Gabriel Suswam had at a meeting held at Government House Makurdi, agreed to zone the Governorship to Jechira axis particularly to Vandeikya.

According to them, “It was done in the spirit of fairness, equity and inclusiveness”.

However, the issue has generated a lot of controversies with the Kwande axis alleging marginalization.

Their son and former Chief of Staff Pastor Terwase Orbunde who was probably tipped to emerge had the zoning favored them, was automatically shut out thereby invoking anger amongst the people.

Orbunde had at a stakeholders’ meeting at Adikpo on Tuesday 5th March,2022 briefed his people, stating that the reasons given to sideline Kwande were not convincing enough as among the Tiv zoning arrangements were usually based on the theory of recency.
