The Benue State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack on Aboajo Village in Mbateren Mbazum Council Ward, Ukum Local Government Area.
Police Spokesman DSP Peter Orchia, issuing a statement on behalf of Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu, reported that the morning attack resulted in three fatalities.
Four other victims suffered machete wounds and were rescued and transported to a medical facility for treatment.
It added that additional tactical and patrol teams have been deployed to secure the region and track down the perpetrators.
Reacting, Governor Hyacinth Alia strongly condemned the assault on Mbazun ward communities, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
Reaffirming his commitment to protecting residents, Alia declared, “Benue lands for Benue people. Anyone who thinks that attacking us will intimidate us to leave the land is making a mistake.”
The governor commended security forces for their prompt response and acknowledged ongoing assistance from the Federal Government.
He urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious movements to assist intelligence efforts.
Alia instructed security personnel to maintain high alert across strategic zones statewide to preempt further threats to peace.
