A businessman, Luben John, 29, has appeared in a Grade 1 Area court, in Kado, Abuja, for allegedly breaking into his friend’s house and stealing.

John, 29, who resides in Gwazunu village, Suleja, Niger, is charged with two counts of housebreaking and theft.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, told the court that on March 5, one Alhaji Yusuf Musa of No 1, 64 Crescent, off 69 Road, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, lodged a complaint against the accused at the Gwarimpa Police Station.

He said that the complainant reported that sometime between October and November 2013, he travelled abroad and returned in April, only to discover that the accused had broken into his house.

Idi told the court that the accused broke into the complainants two houses in Gwarimpa Estate and Citec Estate, in Life Camp area of Abuja.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused stole a 6.5 KV generator unit, five beds, four Samsung television sets, two over-head water tanks, four refrigerators, six rugs and an Italian made set of chairs.

He said other items stolen by the accused were one unit of Samsung gas cylinder, a pumping machine, a pressure machine and 23 sets of shoes.

Idi told the court that during investigation, an HP desktop computer, a pumping machine, a complete car pot, burglary proof, a satellite dish and a set of home theatre were recovered from the accused.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code; adding that if found guilty, the accused is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than a year or an option of fine.

After the charges were read to John, he pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, granted the accused with a reliable public servant not below GL 12 as a surety.

He ordered that the person must have a Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property in Abuja.

Sadiq adjourned the case to June 10, for further hearing. (NAN)
