The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri yesterday imposed a 4-day ban on vehicular movements in Borno state in order to curtail attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents during Christmas festivities.
Spokesman of the Division, Col. Sani Usman, in a statement said the ban also affected trucks, cars, tricycles and motorcycles from plying roads with effect from 6pm of Wednesday to 7am of Sunday, 28th December, 2014
The spokesman explained that the measure was imperative following intelligence reports indicating that the Boko Haram insurgents are making concerted efforts to unleash mayhem in some parts of the state.
He added that security reports had indicated that the terrorists are particularly planning to launch bloody attacks in Maiduguri, the state capital during Christmas.
“Consequent upon this, the Division in consultation with Borno state government and other security agencies ban all all forms of vehicular movement in the state. During Christmas celebration.
“This measure becomes necessary in order to further safeguard lives and properties of law-abiding citizens in the state” the statement assured
It also called on citizens to be security cautious and report any suspicious person or movement to the nearest security agency.
“We wish to assure the good people of Borno and indeed all abiding citizens that the military is doing all it could to route out terrorists causing mayhem in the society”, the statement added.
