Date:

NYSC_LogoSome National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said the insurgency posed a great threat to their Community Development Service (CDS) in the Territory.

The also described the insurgency in some parts of the country as great threat to their service and safety.

They expressed these feelings in separate interviews with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

A corps member, Miss Funmi Cletus, said most corps members would not be able to perform their CDS effectively, thereby negatively affecting the communities they were serving.

She called on the Federal Government to provide enhanced security for the corps members, to enable them execute their service effectively and in an atmosphere devoid of fear.

“The safety of corps members should also be paramount in the security measures government is taking against the insurgents.

“Since we are under the care of government, at least for one year, everything should be done to protect our lives and property,” she said.

Another corps member, Blessing Musa, also stressed the need for providing security for those serving their fatherland for one year.

According to her; “This protection is even more important in view of the fact we are not in our state of origin.’’

Also, another corps member, John Taiwo, who lamented the loss of his friend in the second Nyanya bomb blast, advised the government to “create a safe place for the corps members.”

Taiwo called for increased synergy among the security agents to boost the efforts aimed at bringing the insurgency to an end.

“It is a threat to everybody, especially corps members because of the uniform we wear,” she said.

She advised the government to seek the assistance of international security organisations in tackling the insecurity in the country. (NAN)
