FCTA to develop multi-sports centers in 2025

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced approval and award of contracts for the development of two multi- purpose sports centers at strategic locations in the city.
This disclosure was made yesterday, in Abuja at the end of 11th meeting of the FCT Executive Council.
Briefing newsmen, Acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Daudu, explained that the project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to promote a healthy citizenry and work force.
“Today is the 11th meeting of the FCT Executive Council, the FCTA presented a memo in respect of development of multi-event sports centers in the city.
“The FCT Exco considered and awarded contracts for developing two multi- purpose sports centers at strategic locations in the city.
“These two sports centers have several sports facilities, football pitches, lawn tennis, table tennis, indoor sports facilities, and all other facilities necessary for sports.
“This is in line with the renewed hope agenda, particularly as it has to do with young people, youth development, and the physical and mental well-being of the citizens of the city.
“When fully developed, this will be available and open to all citizens to partake and to ensure that it is well utilised for the well-being of the people.”
He said two centres have been identified for the projects and two companies given the project.
Regarding the much talked about land revocation, the Acting ES said that enough notices were given and that all allottees know that they were owing and needed to pay.
He added that the minister, Nyesom Wike in his magnanimity has extended the dead line for payment for another two weeks.
According to him: “Those people granted plots in the district, that were yet to pay their C of O bills, that their titles had been withdrawn.
“We made a publication in October, asking all the allottees of Maitama, Cadastral Zone A10 District, who were yet to pay their C of O bills to pay up, and they were given two weeks within which to do so, failing which the titles would be withdrawn. The two weeks elapsed. Some people still didn’t pay.
“A further one week grace was given. Some people paid, and others still refused to pay. After some time, the administration took the decision to withdraw those titles.”
He said these monies were required to provide infrastructure in the FCT
He said some people complained of lack of infrastructure like roads and also water in their locations “but they don’t want to fulfill their own obligations to enable government provide the infrastructure.”
He urged the people to go ahead and pay as calls and letters would not help.
The new extension enables any allottee to pay up between now and January 3, 2025.
He said what ever the minister is doing is for the overall interest of the people and the general public.
