But for the timely intervention of policemen, a mob would have lynched a middle aged man believed to be the son of Emir of Ringim, Jigawa state over a bomb scare that triggered pandemonium at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education located on the busy Kano-Zaria federal highway.
The man, identified as Mahmood Sayyadi, narrowly escaped death after he was said to have breached security scrutiny at the entrance of the school when he was flagged down for checks by security men.
Our reporter learnt on good authority that the prince arrived the school in a black SUV vehicle and forced his way into the school campus, without waiting for the security men to search his car.
Eyewitness disclosed to our reporter that security guards confronted Sayyadi and forced him out of his jeep after which he denied that he has any link with terrorists. When the identity of the suspected suicide bomber was revealed, the fleeing students returned in anger and were about to lynch him when the police arrived and rescued him.
Our reporter gathered that a call was put to the police by a concerned citizen who deployed their men to the spot to contain the situation.
Security sources revealed that “the police had to apply minimum force to restore order, adding that the suspect and his car were secured and taken to the police station.
The ensuing melee crippled academic activities college. The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, ASP Musa Magaji Majiya confirmed that the police intervened, but was quick to add that “we are yet to establish the identity of the detained suspect”.
