The House of Representatives on Thursday concluded the composition of its minority leadership, with opposition lawmakers unanimously electing Rep. Frederick Agbedi as Minority Leader and Rep. Abdulsamad Dasuki as Deputy Minority Leader.
The development was announced during plenary when members of the minority caucus presented a consensus list to fill key vacant principal officer positions in the 10th House.
Under the arrangement, Agbedi will serve as Minority Leader, Dasuki as Deputy Minority Leader, while Rep. Mansur Soro was endorsed as Minority Whip
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the session, formally announced the nominations and declared the positions filled.
Abbas said the appointments marked the completion of the House’s principal officer structure.
“Today, the body of principal officers is complete,” the Speaker declared.
He congratulated the newly elected leaders and assured them of the cooperation and support of the House leadership in advancing the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly.
“On behalf of the entire House, I congratulate the three lawmakers and wish them success in their new responsibilities. The leadership of the House will work closely with them to ensure the achievement of the legislative objectives of this important Assembly,” Abbas said.
The emergence of the new minority leaders followed consultations among opposition parties aimed at filling the vacant positions and strengthening the representation of minority interests within the House leadership framework.
With the appointments, both the majority and minority caucuses now have a full complement of principal officers, a move expected to enhance legislative coordination, debate, and parliamentary oversight in the Green Chamber.
