In a bold move to give back to their roots, the Dogon Bauchi Old Students Association of Kaduna State has announced an ambitious community development project aimed at transforming the learning environment of their alma mater.

This was the resolution at the associatini’s 2024 Annual General Meeting(AGM) at NAF Club in Kaduna at the weekend.

The initiative is expected to uplift the school and inspire future generations through the introduction of modern learning equipment and periodic upgrades.

According to Chairman of the Projects Steering Committee of the association –Professor Umar Aliyu Hanwa, the project will focus on improving the school’s infrastructure, equipping classrooms with state-of-the-art learning tools, and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence.

He explained that the alumni believe this intervention is crucial in bridging the gap between traditional education methods and 21st-century learning demands.

Also speaking, one of the organizers of the Alumni Annual General Meeting, Mukhtar Isa said the association’s outgoing President, Muktari aka ‘Dumex’ emphasized the importance of giving back to the institution that shaped their foundation.

“This project is not just about infrastructure; it’s about empowering the next generation with the tools and environment they need to thrive in a competitive world,” Muktar Isa noted.

The initiative, according to alumnus Nasir Ahmed, will include regular assessments of the school’s needs, ensuring sustained support over time. He urged the Alumni to swing into action immediately and stand to be counted in upgrading the school’s facilities and teaching quality.

Another alumnus Amina Aminu who spoke on behalf of all the ladies in attendance revealed that “plans are also underway to establish mentorship programmes where alumni can engage directly with students, sharing knowledge and experiences to inspire academic and professional growth.”

Speaking at the end of the AGM, alumnus Nasir Dambatta reiterated that the effort by the Dogon Bauchi Alumni “exemplifies a growing trend of communities rallying together to address developmental challenges at the grassroots level.”

Also speaking on the sidelines of the AGM, the Secretary of Sabon Gari Local Government Council and an alumnus, Hassan Abdul believes the project could serve as a model for other alumni groups looking to make a lasting impact in their communities.

A cross-section of the alumni association’s members have also called on stakeholders, including local authorities and philanthropists, to support the initiative, stressing that collective effort is key to achieving meaningful and sustainable change.

As the project takes off, the school is set to become a pillar of educational excellence, showcasing the power of collaboration and the enduring bond between past and present generations.
