Breaking: On World Social Justice Day, Kaduna Renews Vow Against Inequality

As the world marks the 2025 World Day of Social Justice, the Kaduna State Government has restated its commitment to building a fair and inclusive society, tackling economic inequality, and addressing environmental challenges that threaten vulnerable communities.

In a press statement on the significance of the day, Kaduna’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, FCIPDM described social justice as the foundation of sustainable development. He warned that climate change, poverty, and economic exclusion were deepening inequalities, making it imperative for governments to adopt policies that leave no one behind.

He noted that climate change had severely impacted agrarian communities across the state, with extreme weather conditions causing droughts, floods, and soil degradation. Farmers, he said, were struggling with reduced crop yields, leading to food insecurity and economic instability.

“These are not just environmental concerns; they are social justice issues. We must ensure that those hit hardest by these challenges receive the support they need,” he stated.

Shu’aibu lauded Governor Uba Sani on implementing bold interventions to promote social equity. He pointed to the governor’s insistence on a thorough verification of the state’s social registers to ensure that aid and relief efforts reach the most vulnerable.

The administration, he said, had also partnered with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to certify artisans, improving their job prospects and financial independence.

A key plank of the government’s strategy, he added, was financial inclusion, ensuring that marginalized communities have access to economic opportunities. The ongoing construction of vocational training centers across the state, he said, would empower youths and women with essential skills, making them self-reliant and resilient against economic downturns and promote social equality.

He also hailed the transformation of Panteka Market into a major skills acquisition hub, describing it as a milestone in the administration’s drive to tackle poverty through practical solutions. The initiative, which has engaged over 38,000 artisans, he said, is not only enhancing skills but also stimulating local economies and strengthening social equity.

Beyond economic empowerment, Shu’aibu said the Ministry of Justice remained committed to upholding social justice by enforcing laws that protect the environment, guarantee fair labour practices, and expand access to social protections such as healthcare, education, and housing.

“Justice must be all-encompassing. It must serve the youth, who are our future; women, who are the pillars of our communities; workers, who drive the economy; and the marginalized, whose inclusion strengthens the fabric of society,” he said.

He acknowledged security challenges in some parts of Kaduna State but assured that Governor Uba Sani’s administration had intensified efforts to restore peace, demonstrating a firm commitment to justice and stability.

Calling for collective action, Shu’aibu urged government agencies, civil society, and the private sector to work together in advancing social justice. He insisted that a just and sustainable future could only be achieved through shared responsibility and unwavering commitment.

As Kaduna joined the global community in commemorating Social Justice Day, the commissioner reaffirmed the government’s resolve to create an inclusive and prosperous society where every citizen, regardless of background, has an equal opportunity to thrive.
