The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced the commencement of a nationwide strike, instructing all its members to withdraw their services across various offices, companies, institutions, and agencies starting at 12:01 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The directive, which followed an emergency National Executive Council meeting, signals an escalation of the union’s dispute with the management of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery over the alleged mass dismissal of hundreds of Nigerian workers.
The union’s instruction mandates a total withdrawal of services across the entire oil and gas sector, including upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.
Critical services such as control room operations, panel operations, and outfield personnel were instructed to begin withdrawing services from 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 28, with the full, national shutdown effective from the first minute of Monday.
The action includes a specific directive to halt crude oil and gas supplies to the Dangote Refinery, an action the union states will continue until the sacked workers are reinstated.
