Breaking: Tinubu appoints AIG Tunji Disu as new IGP, removes Egbetokun

Date:

In a major shake-up within the nation’s security architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly removed Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu as his successor.

Sources familiar with the development confirmed the change in leadership on Tuesday, marking a significant transition in the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

While an official statement from the Presidency is expected shortly, highly placed sources within the police high command have verified the appointment.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Force Public Relations Office were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.

“It is confirmed; AIG Tunji Disu is the new IGP. An official announcement will be made to the public soon,” a senior official revealed.

Another source reinforced the report, stating, “The transition is already in motion. It’s a double confirmation.”

Prior to this appointment, AIG Olatunji Disu has held several high-profile positions within the force, including serving as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and leading the specialized Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He is widely regarded for his professional conduct and expertise in modern policing.

This leadership change comes at a time when the federal government is intensifying efforts to address various security challenges across the country.
