President Bola Tinubu has condemned recent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the killings and abductions as “barbaric” and vowing that those responsible will be brought to justice.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the president denounced the assault by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, as well as the attack in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Tinubu said the incidents, including the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna, were an affront to national values and warned that the perpetrators would not go unpunished. He described the attackers as “heartless cowards” who target vulnerable communities under the cover of darkness, adding that such violence appears aimed at provoking reprisals and escalating unrest.
The president directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those behind the attacks and to curb the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions. He also cautioned sections of the media against prematurely framing the violence as religiously motivated.
Tinubu urged security forces to act more proactively using early warning intelligence and called for the immediate rescue of remaining abductees from Kahir village. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation with security directives, including evacuation and relocation measures where necessary.
He commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their response efforts, and expressed condolences to the families of victims while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The president added that the federal government is acquiring advanced equipment to enhance the capacity of security agencies to track and combat criminal elements in real time.
