The House of Representatives has thrown into chaos following a heated disagreement over the clause-by-clause consideration of the report seeking the rescission of the Electoral Amendment Act.
Tension erupted on the floor when the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over plenary, allegedly skipped some clauses while taking the report.
The move immediately sparked outrage among several lawmakers, who accused the presiding officer of attempting to bypass certain provisions of the report.
Angered by the development, some members rose from their seats in protest, shouting and pointing fingers across the chamber, while others moved toward the aisle in what appeared to be an attempt to stage a walkout.
The disagreement temporarily disrupted proceedings, as lawmakers insisted that every clause must be duly considered in line with parliamentary procedure.
As of press time, efforts were being made to restore order in the chamber.
Details later.
