BSG to intensify girl child vocational education

Date:

From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi

The Bauchi State government has intensified efforts in encouraging the girl-child to study vocational education courses in schools, preparatory to their future endeavours.

The state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Alhaji Bala Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with news men yesterday in Bauchi, saying the state government would encourage young school girls in the state to study science and technology like their male counterparts.

Abdullahi said the state government was planning massive awareness campaign as part of its efforts to provide opportunity for young girls to develop their potentials.

He said young girls had huge potentials that should not be left untapped for whatever reason.

“Like their male counterparts, they can do even better in the area of science and technology.

“As a gender sensitive administration, the state government saw the need to carry out massive sensitisation campaign to encourage our young girls to develop interest in science-related courses to maximise their God given potentials.

“We hope to achieve this noble objective through the Nigerian Girls Education Initiative (NGEI) which seeks to improve policies, planning, programme and budgeting for girls’ education ,’’ he said.

He said the state government launched the initiative in 2008 and had gone further to include married women as one of its target groups.
