Buhari’s death deeply personal loss – Ramatu Aliyu mourns Nigeria ex -president

Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a father figure and a towering symbol of discipline, integrity, and selfless service.

In a heartfelt tribute released shortly after the announcement of the former president’s passing in a London clinic, Dr Aliyu reflected on her personal and professional relationship with Buhari, calling his death a deeply personal loss.

“With a heart weighed down by grief, I received the news of the passing of our dear father and leader, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. This loss is deeply personal to me, not just as someone privileged to have served under his administration, but as a daughter who drew wisdom, guidance, and strength from his calm and principled presence,” she said.

Dr Aliyu hailed Buhari’s legacy, describing him as a leader whose life was marked by value and character. She noted that his leadership style was anchored in quiet strength and an abiding commitment to the nation’s progress and unity.

“President Buhari was a towering figure of discipline, sacrifice, and uncommon humility. He was a man who bore the weight of a nation with quiet strength and left behind a legacy carved in integrity, patriotism, and service to humanity. His unwavering faith and devotion to Allah were constants in his life and leadership.

“To me, he was not just a President; he was Baba – a father who looked out for his children, who listened even in silence, and who believed in the potential of the younger generation to shape a better Nigeria. I will forever cherish his warmth, his gentle encouragement, and the trust he bestowed upon me as a member of his cabinet,” Dr Aliyu futher said.

The former minister also extended condolences to Buhari’s widow and family, praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time.

“As we mourn this monumental loss, we pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his deeds, and grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen. Baba, you will forever live in our hearts.,” she added.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, passed away earlier today, after a brief illness. His death marks the end of a significant era in Nigeria’s political history.
