The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has distributed some food items and cash to the less privileged people within the council.
In particular, the items distributed to each of the 56 beneficiaries were 60 bags of 25kg rice and token of N10,000 cash.
Candido explained that the gesture was a fulfillment of the campaign promises and to improve the welfare of the beneficiaries, especially the widows.
The Vice Chairman of AMAC, Mr Lawrence Onuchukwu, made the presentation, on behalf of the council.
He said, “In 2016 when we came on board, we promised to give back 50 per cent of our salary to support and care for the less privileged in the society and the widows.
“We are grateful for the privilege to serve and we hope to reach out to the poor of the poorest through our show of love,’’ he said.
The vice chairman also called on other political appointees in the country to give back to society, by reaching out to the poor.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Habiba Gangiwa, a widow, thanked the council for the show of love.
Similarly, another beneficiary, Mr. Haruna Muhammed, commended the leadership of the council for assisting the poor masses.
