Carpenter docked for misappropriation

The police have arraigned a carpenter, Abiola Akintunde, 54,  of Karimo Village, Abuja, before a  Grade 1  Area court, in Kado, Abuja, for alleged criminal misappropriation.

 The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, told the court that Margareth Anyanwu of Plot 3641, Apo Resettlement, Abuja, reported the matter at Gwarinpa Police Station on July 1.

Idi said that sometime in July 2012, the complainant entrusted the sum of N1.2 million and some block-making materials to the accused to help her establish a block-making industry.

He said that Akintunde ran away to an unknown destination and diverted the money to his personal use.

He said when the accused was interrogated he could not give a proper account of how the money and the block-making materials vanished.

The prosecutor also said that during police investigation, Akintunde admitted to committing the crime but pleaded not guilty before the court.

He said the offence contravened the provision of Section 309 of the Penal code.

The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

Sadiq also ordered that the surety must produce a copy of Certificate of Occupancy of a property, and adjourned the case till August 8 for further hearing. (NAN)
