From Uche Uche, Damaturu

The CBM northeast programme coordinator, Kargam Ali, has urged state governors on adequate funding of mental health services.
He made the call while speaking with Peoples Daily in Damaturu in support of the The World Mental Health Day campaign co-designed by the World Health Organization, United for Global Mental Health and the World Federation for Mental Health.
The event kicked off on 1 September and will culminate the mental health day commemoration on the 10th of October, 2020.
“With regards to Mental Health, it’s pertinent for government to provide the required services at the doorstep of beneficiaries, because metal health services are only found at urban centres as 65% of people suffering from mental illness are domiciled in rural areas,” the coordinator said.
As an NGO involved with intervention in mental health in Yobe state, the coordinator pointed out that his organisation has equally made provision for drug in support of the required services.
“We have made provision for service in Buni Yadi and Potiskum local government areas respectively. Drugs were also provided for the hospitals as a revolving drugs for little stipends to support sustainability”.
