Chinda was elected as member of the house on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and was elected to lead members of the minority parties. Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, read Chinda’s resignation letter, dated April 23, 2026, during Tuesday’s plenary. “It has been a profound honour and privilege to serve in this capacity, representing the collective interest of the minority caucus and contributing to the legislative work of the house,” the letter reads. The lawmaker, who represents Obio/Akpor federal constituency of Rivers state, was on May 21, endorsed as the governorship candidate of the APC. The Court of Appeal has however voided the leadership of the party under which he emerged as candidate, a judgement which also nullified all actions done by the affected APC leaders in Rivers.
