Post-election violence: Gombe CAN worries over non-payment of compensation

The leadership of Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Gombe state had decried federal government inability to compensate its members which according to them have kept silence over the 2011 post-election violence where most of its members were affected.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gombe state chapter, Rev. Abare Kallah stated this yesterday in Gombe during 2014 Easter Monday celebration held at the CAN centre in Gombe.

According to him, government decided to throw its members into hardship, noting that they have nothing to do than raise alarm so government can pay compensation to its members.

He appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan as matter of urgency, to consider their plea in order to compensate its members, adding that Gombe state was among states in the north that were affected with the 2011 post election violence, yet has nothing from government.

Responding, Gombe state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Thaanda Jason Rubainu in his Goodwill message at the event said modalities has already been put in place to ensure that those who were affected during the incident will soon be paid.

He said governor Dankwambo has promised that those who were affected will soon be compensated and urged citizens to remain calm as arrangement has been concluded to ensure that every one is paid.

According to him, people in the area should continue to pray for peace in the nation, stressing that without peace in the country, there would be no meaningful development .He enjoined both Christians and Muslims to be their brother’s keeper.

He said Easter celebration is a period of sober reflection and that there is need for Christian to pray in order to overcome the problems of insecurity in the country.
