Ministry of Environment and Environmental Health Council of Nigeria ( EHCON), said more than  80% of over 200 foods and water  samples collected were tested positive and contaminated.

The Registrar of the Council, Dr. Yakubu Baba, stated this  during a press conference in Abuja yesterday.
He said environmental health workers are in the field researching on the cholera challenges.
“They are also creating awareness and ensuring that all waterways bodies infected within those areas reported were being monitored and those communities are being chlorinated to enable the communities to have good drinkable water”.

The Registrar emphasized that on Friday, the state minister of environment Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, is going to issue environmental interventions for cholera for 31 states.

Similarly, he said the state minister has directed massive capacity building for environmental health practitioners in the country  on the new strength of the cholera
bacteria.
“ In any Cholera outbreak there is a new strength because the bacteria itself has to metamorphose to another strength. “ That is why if you are successful with the first outbreak, one may not be successful with the second outbreak because of the new strength”, he stated.
He said that is why they are embarking on series of research.
Meanwhile, the council has recommended intensified hygiene practice in homes, public spaces, restaurants and schools to prevent contacting cholera disease.
