Christian council to deploy 2,000 monitors for February polls

In order to ensure that free, fair and transparency are the watch words of the 2015 general elections, the Christian Council of Nigeria, (CCN) is deploying over 2000 observers to monitor the electoral processes across the country.

The General Secretary of the Council Reverend, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed this at a press briefing in Kaduna yesterday.

He said the 2000 observers comprising 2 coordinators from each states and 55 members from each of the 36 states will be trained to observe and report timely on any malpractices or otherwise in their polling units.

He further disclosed that the council has already trained more than 400 church leaders; women and youth leaders across the nation who are expected to go back to their communities and train others on civic educations.

He advised every Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral processes. Noting that the effects of bad governance will still fall back on the Nigerians if they fail to perform their civic responsibility of electing credible leaders of their choice.

“Apart from the civic education and sensitization on rights and responsibilities, the council hopes to mobilize and deploy over two thousand (2000) people to observe and report on the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria. Our grass root members will be trained to observe and report timely on any malpractices or otherwise in their polling units.

However, the council also called all on government at all levels to ensure that lives and properties of all Nigerians are protected before, during and after the elections, specifically the Christian minority in the crisis area and north as a whole.
