The Centre for Information Technology and Development has condemned a sustained cyberattack on its official website, describing it as a major disruption to its operations and a violation of digital rights.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the organisation disclosed that the attack, identified as a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS), has rendered its website inaccessible for over 24 hours, leading to significant disruption and loss of access to critical organisational data.

CITAD noted that the incident has hindered its ability to disseminate information, provide digital services, and engage effectively with its community.

The organisation called for an immediate cessation of the attack and urged relevant authorities, stakeholders, and cybersecurity actors to support efforts aimed at securing its digital infrastructure and preventing future breaches.

It also appealed to human rights organisations, civil society groups, and the media to take note of the development and lend support to the protection of digital spaces and organisational rights.

CITAD further urged the government and its agencies to strengthen safeguards against cyber threats, warning that such incidents raise concerns about the vulnerability of civic and democratic spaces online, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Additionally, the organisation advised applicants of its programmes, including the Bauchi Feminist Internet School (BAFIS), Digital Literacy Training, and Digital Hygiene initiatives, to resubmit their applications once the website is fully restored, as previously submitted records were lost due to the attack.
