Obasanjo Chairs Opposition Summit in Ibadan

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is scheduled to chair the National Summit of All Opposition Political Party Leaders, holding in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, today.The event, hosted by Governor Seyi Makinde, has been scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.

The summit will bring together leaders from major opposition parties under the theme, ‘That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy’.

Organisers described the summit as a historic move aimed at forging a common front to address Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and security challenges, while strengthening democratic institutions.

Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Usman Bugaje, among others, are expected to speak at the summit.

Already, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and that of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are at the venue for the event.

Atiku posted a video of his arrival on his Facebook page.

In the video, a large crowd of supporters was seen welcoming the former Vice President to Oyo State.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to disrupt the summit.

In a statement on Saturday morning, Abdullahi said the APC has been working to disrupt the event.

“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo State, today, 25th of April,” Abdullahi wrote on X.

“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings.

“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified.

“But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people.”
