CJID trains IBBU Lapai students on campus journalism

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has concluded its three days training on mentorship programme for Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBU) students, which was held at the university’s ICT center in Lapai main campus.
The Project Manager for the Next GEN Campus Reporter Project at the CJID, Osaruoanamen Ibizugbe, said the programme is a learning platform basically to foster and build the next generation of journalists and bridging the gap between classroom teaching and actual news room practice.
The programme however emphasized on the importance of courage, accuracy, fairness, and objectivity in journalism.
Also, the CJID Editor Campus Reporter, Qousim Sulaiman explained that the association have been in existence for over twelve years, educating and impacting on young up coming journalists from various universities across Nigeria and West Africa including Ghana, Seria-Leone and 49 other universities.
Also speaking, the HOD Mass Communication Department at the university, Doctor Trenenge Enge appreciates the institution’s SUG President, Comrade Baba Shehu, the Deen faculty of Social Sciences, and other bodies for the initiative and total support in the actualization of the training for upcoming journalists.
Other facilitators at the event includes, the Investigative Journalist for Premium Times Yakubu Muhammad, Communications Officer DUBAWA Lateef Sani, Program Manager DUBAWA Temilade Onilede, the Research Analyst, Digital, Tech, AI, and Information Disorder (DAIDAC) Sunusi Anselm Sunusi, also highlighted on the digital responsibility and youth action in the age of disinformation.
According to them, the CJID programme was informative, engaging, and beneficial to the participants which also provided valuable knowledge and practical skills that will improve their understanding and practice of journalism.
The programme however featured keynote speeches, panel discussions interactive training sessions, and practical workshops on topics such as media ethics, investigative journalism, digital storytelling, fact-checking, and the role of technology in modern journalism were discussed, as well as questions and answers on practical exercises. While participanting students received certificates.
