The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) strongly condemns the call by some members of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. The CNG considers this a shameful endorsement of terrorism.

The statement, released on Tuesday evening by CNG National Coordinator Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, calls the lawmakers’ demand “an affront to the victims of Kanu’s alleged terror activities and a slap in the face of the Nigerian people.”

The CNG claims to have reported Kanu to the UN in 2017 for acts of terror and advocated for his group to be designated a terrorist organization.

The statement details accusations against Kanu, including incitement of violence, killings of security personnel, destruction of property, and ethnic violence.

The CNG criticizes the lawmakers on several points such as “Subverting the rule of law: They argue that supporting Kanu’s release while he faces charges in court undermines the judiciary.

” The CNG questions why these lawmakers weren’t vocal when Northerners were allegedly targeted by Kanu’s group.

“The CNG argues that releasing Kanu would dishonor the memory of those killed by his alleged actions.

“The CNG expresses concern that this action could threaten peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.”,he said

The statement acknowledges that lawmakers from the Southeast may support Kanu, but it condemns any Northern lawmakers who endorsed this action.
