The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has issued a strong call to the federal government following the recent tanker explosion in Jigawa State, which claimed the lives of over 150 people and left many more injured.

In a statement, CNG’s National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expressed the coalition’s profound grief over the tragic event, extending heartfelt condolences to the people of Jigawa State, particularly in the Taura Local Government Area, where the explosion occurred.

“This incident serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the pressing challenges facing our nation,” Charanchi said. He offered prayers for the families of the victims, wishing them strength during this difficult time, and called for the swift recovery of those injured.

The CNG also called on the federal and state governments to take immediate action to prevent such tragedies in the future, stressing the need to address the root causes of such accidents. They highlighted the poor state of infrastructure and the lack of strict safety regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials like petroleum products.

“We urge the government to prioritize policies that enhance road safety, healthcare, and emergency response capabilities,” Charanchi added. “Every Nigerian, regardless of their location, deserves to feel safe and protected by the state.”

The coalition’s statement emphasized the need for unity, urging governments at all levels to review policies that contribute to the difficulties faced by many Nigerians, suggesting that these hardships may have influenced victims’ actions during the tanker explosion.
