Community leader alerts on ‘exodus’ of villagers displaced by bandits in Katsina
A community leader, Mahadi Danbinta Guga has raised alarm over the exodus of villagers displaced by bandits in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He said bandits have forced residents of over seven villages to leave their homes and seek for shelter in Bakori, the local government headquarters.
In a post on his verified media handles, Mahadi urged the Katsina state government to pay attention to the plight of the displaced persons and the increasing waves of attack by bandits in the area.
“While the government and members of the ruling party are celebrating the decamping of some “key” opposition members, we are deeply worried about the mass “decamping” of our people, who are forcefully vacating their villages out of fear and intimidation from possible bandits’ attacks, which are prevalent.
“I hope the authority is aware of the mass “exodus” of people from Unguwar Karma, Layin Rama, Unguwar Dogo, Alhazawa/Gidan Nagari, Ganjar, Shuwaki, Doka, Karofi, and many more communities.
“I was disturbed by what I witnessed yesterday night in Bakori town, where I saw women from these villages holding children and carrying loads, looking for a place to sleep,” he stated.
Mahadi said government should respond quickly to the “avoidable calamitous situation”.
He said that it was necessary to create a stable and conducive atmosphere for the citizens, wondering how those in authority are concentrating on politics and the forthcoming election when people are being displaced by criminals.
Bakori LGA is among the over 12 local government areas in Katsina State facing insecurity due to the activities of armed bandits.
