Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has urged Islamic scholars and members of the Qadiriyya Movement to continue promoting peace, unity and peaceful coexistence for the development of society.

Wamakko made the call on Saturday when he received the leadership of the Qadiriyya Movement in Nigeria, led by its National Leader, Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru Kabara, at his Gawon Nama residence in Sokoto.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bashar Abubakar, Wamakko expressed delight over the visit and described his relationship with the Qadiriyya Movement as longstanding and cordial.

He congratulated the movement on the successful conduct of its annual programme in Sokoto and prayed for continued divine guidance, protection and strength for its leadership and members.

The senator also called on Islamic scholars to remain committed to preaching the true teachings of Islam while encouraging peace, unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

Earlier, Sheikh Karibullah said the delegation’s visit to Sokoto was part of the movement’s annual activities, which bring together members from across the country to commemorate the life, teachings and scholarly legacy of Sheikh Usmanu Bin Fodiyo.

He said the visit also provided an opportunity for members of the movement to witness development projects being undertaken by the Sokoto State Government, particularly the ongoing reconstruction and remodelling of the Sheikh Usmanu Bin Fodiyo Jumu’at Mosque.

He also appreciated the Sokoto State Government for the warm reception accorded members of the movement and prayed for the continued success of the administration.

The Qadiriyya leader used the occasion to sympathise with Wamakko over the death of his daughter, Hajiya Rashida Ahmed Barade Wamakko.

He prayed for the forgiveness of her shortcomings and for Allah to grant her Jannatul Firdaus.

The visit was attended by several Qadiriyya scholars and other prominent personalities.
