A community leader in Angwan Hajara community, Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Lawal Saleh, has urged politicians in the Territor to embrace peace and eschew all forms of violence during the  forthcoming 2015 general elections.

Saleh, who made the call in an interview with Peoples Daily at his residence, in Gwagwalada yesterday, also urged politicians to shun politics of a do-or-die for the overall development of the FCT.

He pointed out that if politicians are going to ensure peace and stability during the 2015 elections, they have to shun violence.

He further stressed the need for politics of unity irrespective of religious and political affiliations.

Noting that politics was supposed to be a noble career, he regretted that it has been misused by ‘so-called politicians for their self-aggrandizement.’

Also, he decried that a lot of council chairmen in the FCT had not done enough in their respective councils in terms of infrastructural development.

He therefor called on the chairmen of the area councils to focus on the provision of social amenities for the electorates that voted them into office.

While commenting on the security situation in the FCT and the country at large, Saleh appealed to the Federal Government to redouble its effort to combat insurgents for the safety of the populace.
