Community wants Al-makura’s intervention to install 500 KVA transformer

A 500 KVA transformer given to the Nunku community of Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa state by the administration of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura almost seven months ago, is yet to be installed, prompting the community to cry out for the Governor to intervene in the matter.

Abdullahi Salihu Nunku, a community leader, told journalists on the entourage of the executive chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Abdulkarim Abdullahi, who was in Nunku Tuesday to supervise on-going school project, which the community has continued to experience epileptic power supply as a result of the failure of the relevant authority to install the transformer.

“We are appealing to Al-makura to come to our aid by making sure that the good work he started in Nunku is completed” Salihu Nunku stated.

The community leader used the opportunity to commend the Governor for rehabilitating the Nunku health centre as well as siting one of the Taal Model Schools at the LGEA Primary School, saying the gesture has endeared Al-makura to the people.

“We used to take our pregnant wives far distances to give birth but now, with the rehabilitation of the health centre, our mothers can now deliver safely there” he explained.

Reacting on the matter, Professor Sani Suleiman, general manager of the Nasarawa Electricity Company (NASENCO), disclosed to our reporter that there has been series of complaints from communities across the state regarding the non-installation of transformers earlier given by mostly local government areas to communities within their domain.

“We have received similar complaints across the state. I want to say these transformers are not from our company but were given by past local government administrators to communities” Prof Sani explained.

He however said the matter would be communicated to the government with a view to addressing the situation.
