COREN resuscitates industrial training for engineering students

Council for Regulations of Engineering in Nigeria( COREN), has approved the resuscitation of Supervised Industrial Schemes in Engineering (SITSIE) under a new name; Engineering Residency Programme( EREP).
This was disclosed yesterday during a press briefing ahead of the 32nd COREN engineering Assembly scheduled to hold from 5th -7th in Abuja.
The president of the council, Engr. Prof. Zubair Abubakar said the Engineering Residency Programme( EREP),is
a one year post graduate training programme for all engineering graduates of an accredited university and polytechnic.
He reiterated that, the programme is designed to meet practical experience requirements for the purpose of registration with COREN as professional engineers or an engineering technologist similar to the practices of medical, pharmaceutical among others .
He said relevant organizations like NUC, NBTE , MAN , NSE and NATE were contacted and all have expressed their readiness to participate and support the laudable initiative.
According to Abubakar, COREN planned to engage the national assembly to seek legislative backing for the funding by the industrial training fund( ITF) in line with the existing law.
Similarly, he also outlined activities of the engineering assembly, saying that the theme for this year is tagged ;“ Regulating Engineering Profession For Shared Prosperity in Nigeria”.
He said it will help COREN to check incessant failures of engineering infrastructure especially building collapse across the country.
“ The Minister of Works David Umahi, the chief of event would inaugurate National Technical Committee to drive the ERME at national level , similar to the existing practices regional and state levels”.
Meanwhile, president Bola Tinubu is the special guest of honour.
