Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian(COREN),said implementation of the introduced Continuing Professional Development (CPD),will be effective from January, 2023.

 

This was signed in a statement by COREN president Engr.Ali Rabiu, yesterday in Abuja.

 

He said this will be part of the requirement procurement for practice licence, a quality control mechanism to ensure that only competent practitioners are issued with practice license.

 

“This is in pursuance of the COREN amended Act which has made practice license compulsory for all engineering practitioners and Firms”.

 

Engr.Rabiu maintained that, in compliance with the provisions of the Engineers (Registration, among others) CAP E11 2004 Act as amended is in line with his commitment to uplift COREN as a formidable Engineering Regulatory Organisation in Nigeria.

The president disclosed that Council had ensured the deployment of more effective strategies that will guarantee best practice among the various professionals in Engineering.

 

“The review of curricula for Nigerian Engineering Programme has transited from the traditional input based to Outcome-Based Education (OBE) with the aim of raising the competency level of the Nigerian Engineering practitioners”.

 

He further explained how the council was successful in its investigation, reprimanding, prosecution of erring Engineering practitioners.

 

“This is in relation to building collapse and other sundry offences associated with the Built Industry in Nigeria”.

 

Meanwhile,the President revealed that COREN has effectively put Nigeria engineering on the world map.

“ We ensured that there is adequate visibility and participation in activities of World Federation of Engineering Organisations. Such as the world engineering summit in march 2022 at Costa Rica, 30th Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) General Assembly, the 6th FEIAP Convention of July, 2022, which held in the Philippines and also the 8th Edition of African Engineering Week/6th African Engineering Conference in Ethiopia.”

 

He said COREN also championed mobility of Nigerian Engineers within the African Region,by recently hosting delegations from Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers and Ghana Institution of Engineers.
