Coronavirus: Delta varsity begins online lectures

The Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka has commenced online lectures for students of the institution through telegram.
It was gathered that most lecturers in the institution are currently teaching the students various courses from 100 level to final year online since the invasion of coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world and the state.
For instance, Faculty of Education, among others have commenced online lectures while the Departments of Biology Education, Business Education, Computer Science Education, Physics Education, Fine Arts have also started the online lectures as the students were taught Edu411with Course tiltle; Organization and Administration of Primary, and Secondary Education in Nigeria
Some of the students who spoke to journalists in the area said, “ this is the first time we are having online lectures and the experience is good, the class commenced by 8am and ended 10am , and the lecturer took attendance as soon as the class started, and warned that the attendance was very compulsory as the lecture was done through telegram and the lecture gave us the room to ask questions, we are satisfied.”
When contacted, the University’s Public Relations Officer, ( PRO) Mr Eddy Agbure confirmed the development, saying” online lectures has commenced in the institution, the initiative is to ensure that all the students are kept busy academically while the coronavirus pandemic lasts, and you know at the end of the pandemic when the students resume lectures in classes, they would have lost nothing due to the online lectures.”
Meanwhile, hoteliers in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state are currently counting their losses following the lockdown order by the state government over coronavirus ravaging the world and the State
Monitored activities in the area by journalists revealed that owners of hotels in Ughelli North are lamenting the hash economy in as many of the hotels have closed down for lack of patronage.
According to investigation, most hotels along the East West road in total compliance with the lockdown order, have closed shops, a situation described by one Omovie Pius as worrisome and likely to affect the workforce with a view to ensuring that workers left are being paid as when due until the economic improves for development in the state.
A hotel owner who preferred anonymity said those who could not travel out of the state were held down in the hotel rooms and we were operating partial lockdown because hotels provide essential duties to the public and we were not accepting new customers because we don’t want to crowd the hotel rooms.”PAGE 6 STORIES
