Corruption rising despite Buhari’s stance – Reps committee chair, Garba Shehu

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Anti-corruption, Garba Shehu, has decried the increase in corruption in the country despite the anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Garba Shehu said Thursday in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, that corruption remains endemic and subsisting across board in Nigeria.
“Corruption is very manifest and condoned, this is what is endemic in our country. Corruption has put us in a very low ranking globally as far as transparency and public accountability is concerned,” he said.
Garba, who spoke during the commissioning of the Yola office of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), added that the anti-corruption war needs to be stepped up.
“To my mind, whether this administration of President Buhari is doing enough in fighting corruption, I believe we need to work the talk, to make Nigerians see that we’re fighting corruption,” he said.
Speaking on a different note, however, the Chairman of the ICPC, Bolaji Owasanoye, said the war against corruption is making an impact.
“It is our firm belief that the war against corruption is steadily making progress with the collective commitment of stakeholders in the country,” the ICPC chairman said.
