The Yobe State Security Council has issued a stern warning to politicians against any acts of violence, thuggery, or destruction of property, declaring that security agencies will not tolerate attempts to disrupt the state’s relative peace.
Addressing the journalists after the State Security Council meeting on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, cautioned against the destruction of vehicles, houses, or any form of public disturbance.
He said, the security agencies will not fold their arms and watch individuals disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
The council specifically warned against plans to import thugs from neighbouring states to cause unrest.
“We are using this opportunity to warn politicians who may be planning to import thugs from neighbouring states to shelve the idea.
“We will not tolerate any act capable of threatening peace and security in the state,” the commissioner added.
The council reiterated that any criminal or troublemaker caught during political activities or the upcoming celebrations would face the full wrath of the law.
In his remarks, the Special Advisor on Security to Governor Buni, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), called attention to increased military activity across the state.
“If you are observant, you will notice new types of aircraft flying across different parts of the state. This is because special military operations are currently ongoing,” he said.
Gen. Abdusalam highlighted that, insurgents displaced from their enclaves were attempting to infiltrate villages, towns, and communities, posing fresh security concerns. Urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements.
He stressed that community cooperation is essential to prevent criminals from gaining access to local communities.
“We must be careful not to unknowingly allow criminal elements into our communities. Everyone should take this issue seriously,” he added.
Addressing the ongoing primary elections, the council warned against voter trafficking and other electoral misconduct.
