Thousands of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Jega Local Government Area have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.

According to a statement by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, over 60,000 ADC members defected to the APC.

Receiving some of the defectors, including their executives, on Monday, 6 July 2026, at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the state Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, assured them of equal treatment and opportunities within the ruling party.

The Governor expressed appreciation for their decision to join the APC, describing the development as a testament to the party’s commitment to change and progress.

He said the APC remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to all members and citizens, assuring the new entrants that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as existing party members.

“I assure you of equal treatment, just as every other member of the party enjoys. I also urge you to work diligently for the victory of our great party in the 2027 general elections,” the Governor said.

Governor Idris highlighted some of his administration’s achievements in the areas of education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, water supply, rural development, road infrastructure, and youth empowerment, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the leader of the group, Alhaji Aminu Mustapha, a former ADC Coordinator in Jega Local Government Area and former House of Representatives aspirant for the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, said their decision to join the APC was informed by the developmental achievements recorded by Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
