Court remands Seun Kuti for additional four days

Date:

A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has granted an application for an extension of remand of popular afrobeat singer Seun Kuti for additional four days.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun, extended Kuti’s remand until May 23.
Mr Simon Lough (SAN), who led a police legal team to the court on Thursday, had moved the application.
He said the extension is to allow further investigation into the real cause of the assault against the police officer.
NAN reports that Kuti is charged with assaulting a police officer in Lagos.
He allegedly committed the offence on May 13 on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State.
The music star was charged with slapping an inspector after he drove dangerously on the bridge and blocked a moving police vehicle.
Kuti was arraigned on Tuesday during which the chief magistrate ordered his remand for 48 hours.
She had adjourned the case until May 22 for mention.
