Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to approach their service year with integrity, patriotism and a strong commitment to impacting their host communities.
Kefas gave the charge on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course for the corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Sibre, in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The governor, who was represented by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Williams Ella Aji, said the orientation programme was designed to prepare corps members for the responsibilities of national service beyond academic knowledge.
He described the orientation course as the beginning of a journey that would test the character and abilities of the corps members while providing them with opportunities to contribute positively to society.
“Today is not just merely an orientation course, but a first chapter of a journey that will test your character, shape your abilities and give you the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others,” he said.
Kefas said the corps members had been exposed to training that emphasised discipline, patriotism, teamwork and service, urging them to demonstrate these values throughout their service year.
He encouraged them to approach their primary assignments with dedication and a willingness to contribute to the development of their host communities.
According to him, the NYSC programme should not be regarded merely as a statutory requirement to be fulfilled, but as an opportunity for young Nigerians to make meaningful contributions to national development.
The governor also reminded the corps members of the responsibility associated with wearing the NYSC uniform, stressing that their conduct would reflect not only on the scheme but also on their families and the country.
“Remember that the NYSC uniform is more than a piece of clothing, but a symbol of responsibility. Wherever you find yourself, be a worthy ambassador of the scheme, your families and our great nation,” Kefas said.
He urged the corps members to remain disciplined, respectful and committed to their duties as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment across the state.
The governor assured them of the state government’s support and encouraged them to take advantage of the service year to acquire new experiences, build relationships and contribute to the progress of their host communities.
