Court stops Adamawa Assembly from impeaching Nyako

The High Court in Yola, presided over by the Adamawa Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, yesterday granted two separate interim injunctions restraining the state House of Assembly from taking any action on allegations of Gross Misconduct against Governor Murtala Nyako.

The injunctions granted were in respects of the suits filed by Governor Murtala Nyako against Adamawa Assembly and another one filed by Adamawa APC against three of the state lawmakers who defected from APC to PDP challenging their legibility to partake in the activities of the house.

Barrister Jerry Owe, Counsel to the Governor and APC, requested in his motions among others for an order of interim injunction restraining the house or its agents from taking any further action towards impeaching or removing the Governor from office pending the determination of the motion on notice as contain in the affidavit.

Granting the respective motions, Justice Mammadi said he was convinced after hearing the counsel and read the motion with the accompanying affidavits.

Mammadi said the interim injunctions shall last from today June 26 to July 2, 2014.

It would be recalled that the Adamawa Assembly had on June 18 directed it Clerk, Mr. Francis Gbansenso, to serve Governor Nyako and his Deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari with notice of allegations of gross misconduct.
