In furtherance to efforts at containing the spread of the dreaded coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19 pandemic, the FCT Administration has commenced intensive community active case search in Mpape, a high densely populated community in Bwari Area Council of the Territory.
In particular, during the exercise, health officials carried out sample collection of eligible persons and sensitisation in the community.
Making this disclosure yesterday in a statement, Drector, FCT Public Health Department, Dr. Josephine Okechukwu, said the exercise will be extended to other communities in Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Okechukwu who explained that everyone with history of cough, fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in breathing will be screened, also appealed to veryone with such symptoms to come forth for testing.
Her words: “We have started the community active case search in Mpape, and it will be done in Gishiri, Utako and Mabushi tomorrow (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday.
“We screen everyone with history of cough, fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in breathing. This is to detect everyone with COVID-19 and get them treated promptly to break the chain of transmission in the FCT”.
She adds: “From our data analysis of COVID-19, Maitama District has the highest no of cases, Mpape community is the closest to Maitama where many of the house helps and drivers reside.
“There is likelihood of silent infection in such communities. This was what inforned the chioce of Mpape. We will also work in Kubwa and its environs.”
