COVID-19: FCTA ups monitoring of schools to bridge gaps in learning

In a bid to ensure uninterrupted new academic session, the FCT Administration through its Department of Quality Assurance (DQA) of the Education Secretariat has stepped up it’s routine monitoring and inspection of all schools operating in the Territory, so as to improve efficiency in teaching and learning process.
In particular, the Department revealed that it is expanding it’s monitoring instruments on a daily basis, to adequately cover all areas, so that all noticeable gaps are closed, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 situation.
Making this disclosure during inspection of schools, following the recent resumption of academic activities, the Ag. Director of the Department, Mrs Magdalene Uzoanya, noted that the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic has further made monitoring and inspection essential tools to improve and maintain standard in all schools operating in FCT.
A statement from Assistant Director, ( Information), FCT Education Secretariat Kabiru Musa, at the weekend disclosed that the DQA Director and her team who visited both public and private schools, reiterated the readiness and commitment of the experienced officers to continue to conduct regular monitoring and inspection visits to schools and strategise on creating a more holistic learning environment.
It added the schools visited include: Aflon Digital Academy, kuje, Airforce Girls Comprehensive School Airport RdGovernment Secondary School, Lugbe, Government Secondary School and Junior Secondary School,Jabi and Doveland School, Jabi respectively.
Uzoanya stressed that the burning issues as schools resumes is compliance and the urgent need to embark on vigorous sensitisation for staff and students on the safety protocols
She said the authorities of schools have a great role to play, in order to beef up their awareness of the global pandemic through posters and banners conspicuously pasted at strategic places to serve as constant reminders to obey the safety protocols.
The director however recalled that the its two zones of Abaji and Municipal had a week before dchool resumption embarked on pre-school monitoring and inspection to assess their readiness to resume schools and make teaching and learning process impactful in the new session.
She therefore called on the principals of the schools visited and others, to ensure proper monitoring of staff and students activities while stepping up sensitisation, so avoid any form of distractions in this new session.
