COVID-19: NGO doles out food Items to widows, others in Garki village

An Abuja based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated rice, beans, eggs, potatoes, onions, cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, palm oil, salt, corn and bread to 250 widows and other vulnerable persons living in Garki village and other parts of the FCT.
It was gathered that each of the 250 widows, who benefitted from the donation, got five mudus of beans, a crate of eggs, a basket of potatoes, a basket of onions, a carton of indomie noodles, tubers of yam, a bottle of palm oil, a bag of salt, rice, corn, and a loaf of bread.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries in Abuja, the founder of the organisation, Dr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzo-Udegbunam, explained that the donation was meant to assist the beneficiaries, especially at this period of the partial lockdown.
Uzo-udegbunam added that the NGO had concentrated the palliatives on widows, because they are the most hit by the lockdown, noting that the society seems to have segregated the widows, as most people don’t have the urge to help them.
She noted that the palliative items would go a long way in assisting the petty traders and other artisans, whose means of livelihood have closed down as aresult of the lockdown.
She added that the organisation, also renovated a house belonging to a widow in Garki village, who was living in an overcrowded one- room, with two of her grand children, to give her a sense of belonging.
“We discovered this particular old woman and two of her grand children living in a room, not even fit for chicken. The room was not even good for you to breed your fowl.
“ So, what we did was to fix the place for her so that it will look habitable, aside other things we have done for her.”
“For instance, we have to renovate the house, putting better windows and doors at least for better ventilation.
“We also realized that she slept on the floor. So, we got a mattress and a pillow to make her a bit comfortable”, she stressed.
The founder therefore advised those who have, to always remember the less privileged in the society, because the hand of the giver is always on the top, while the blessings that come with giving is immeasurable and comes with legacies.
