The Administration of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has concluded arrangements to vaccinate about 972,000 persons across the vaccinated centres in the territory on COVID-19 pandemic.
The Executive Chairman of the Area Council, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido who disclosed this while delivering his keynote address during the flag-off ceremony of COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign in Mabushi Primary Healthcare Centre.
Candido, who was represented by his vice-chairman, Hon Lawrence Onuchukwu said: “COVID-19” is a communicable respiratory disease caused by a new strain of Corona virus that causes sickness in human body.
“It is a disease that spreads very rapidly from infected person to the vulnerable people through fluid or droplets during sneezing, coughing and touching your eyes, nose and mouth”.
“The spread of the disease is like a wild fire and capable of killing so many people at a time. It is neither a disease for the white nor black or rich man disease as some of us insinuated.
“It is a worldwide disease that kills both the rich and the poor and also the black and white alike, that is why WHO declared it pandemic”.
The Chairman said: “The Council in collaboration with FCT Primary Healthcare Board and all our partners made concerted efforts to ensure that we save over 1.5million lives within FCT in 50 days”.
He said his leadership would provide the necessary support to ensure the victory of the campaign against COVID-19 pandemic, pointing out that out that the Council would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to actualise its goals.
Candido, however, solicited the support of the traditional and religious leaders, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to take the campaign to the grassroots.
On their parts, the Executive Secretary in charge of the FCT Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Iwot Ndaeyo as well as the Head of Department in Charge of Health in AMAC, Dr Modupe Adeyinka, charged the residents to come out to get vaccinated during the exercise.
