Medical doctor dies of Lassa fever in Benue

A medical doctor, Samuel Nyityo, a staff of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Benue state has died of Lassa fever.

This was just as it was also, gathered that two (2) persons are in critical condition and are said to be receiving treatment.

Dr. Nyityo, it was learnt took ill in Benue and later  referred to Irrua specialist hospital, Edo state where he died on Sunday.

The State Commissioner for Health, Joseph Nbgea said that the hospital has only recorded the death of one person, Dr. Nyityo.

He however said that the other patient that has contacted the disease has been hospitalised and is receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and is in stable condition.

Dr. Ngbea said, “Only Dr Nyityo died. Nobody is in critical condition; the other one person is in a stable condition.”
