COVID-19: Plateau LG boss tasks security operatives on strict surveillance at boundaries

Date:

Mr Lawrence Danat, Chairman, Manu Local Government of Plateau, on Monday tasked security operatives to strengthen surveillance at all boundary routes linking the council within the state and neighbouring Bauchi State.
Danat, who made the call during a meeting with heads of the security agencies in the area, said the flagrant violation of the lockdown order targeted at curbing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus was “unacceptable and detrimental.”
The chairman in a statement signed by Mr Valentine Opiah, the council Information Officer, said:”it is time for serious action against defaulters.
“As security operatives, you must resist and stop any intra-state boundary transit in order to checkmate the risk of spreading the COVID-19 disease in Mangu and in Plateau.
“We are mindful of the discomfort and hardship being experienced by citizens due the total lockdown of human and vehicular movement but they have to bear with us.
“What is more paramount to us as a government is the health or wellbeing of our people and that we must all be protected against the virus”.
Danat said, “the basic expectations from the security agencies is to enforce compliance of the lockdown directives as well as workout modalities for effective boundary border closure.”
Responding on behalf of the heads of security operatives, Mr Yakubu Balami, the Divisional Police Officer, assured the chairman of adequate synergy in the discharge of their duties.
Balami requested for proper protocol regarding arrests, prosecution and quarantining of violators/defaulters coming all the way from outside the state as precautionary measures.
