The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has expressed satisfaction with the measures so far taken by the Federal and State Governments towards curtailing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
This was contained in a statement made available to media in Kaduna yesterday.
The statement signed by Managing Director/CEO of the Foundation Engr Abubakar Gambo Umar advised that Schools, places of worship and other places of public gatherings should be encouraged to shut down during this period in order to break the circle and spread of the infection.
The Foundation also called on religious, traditional, political and community leaders to join hands with government in disseminating credible information about the pandemic, debunking misinformation and myths on the Virus, and most importantly, raising awareness about the gravity of the COVID – 19 situation.
“We encourage every Nigerian to adopt and practice all the precautionary measures as recommended by World Health Organisation WHO, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control NCDC and the various state governments in the country.
“Avoiding physical contacts, social distancing and reporting suspected cases will help to curtail the spread of the disease.
“The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation wishes to draw the attention of all Nigerians to the gravity of the coronavirus situation.
“The pandemic has already infected people in many countries in Europe, Asia, Middle East, America and Africa, Nigeria inclusive.
“The virus is spreading fast and thousands of lives are being lost daily across the globe. We in Nigeria too, have already recorded our first fatality, and no one knows who will be next
The coronavirus pandemic, to say the least, is a real threat to human life and our collective existence, as our businesses and national economies are fast crashing.
“ It is important that as the number of confirmed cases continues to soar in Nigeria, all hands must be on deck to support the government in its effort to stem the outbreak, “ the statement reads.
