CPP never adopted Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 – Sam Eke

Date:

By Ali Abare Abubakar

The presidential candidate of the Citizen Popular Party (CPP) who also doubles as the National Chairman of the party, Chief Sam Eke has debunked the statement credited to one Dr. Charity who during a live programme on NTA, averred that the CPP has endorsed Goodluck Jonathan for the presidency in 2015.

He made the rebuttal during the recently concluded convention of the party which took place at Confidential Hotel, Nyanya, Abuja, where members of the National Executive Committee were also elected into various offices for the next four years.

Speaking further, he stated that the statement is rather unfortunate, regrettable and outright falsehood and so should be disregarded by all well meaning Nigerians as he (Eke) remains the sole candidate for Presidency of the party, come 2015 reiterating that no such decision was ever taken during the convention neither was any one mandated to issue such an embarrassing statement.

Expressing anger over what he called an embarrassment to his person and party faithful across the country, the visibly angry Presidential candidate called on the Nigeria Police to arrest and prosecute her for such a statement and charge her for impersonation. He called on members of the media, especially the government-controlled ones to endeavor to verify the authenticity of news items before airing them as to stall the institution of litigations against their establishments.

On the overall success of the party’s convention Eke stated, that he feels fulfilled that there were no parallel congresses or conventions, as was in the case of some parties. He added that the situation as recorded by some parties where certain individuals or group of persons go to the streets to announce themselves winners of primaries only goes to show that those political parties lacked internal democracy; a key ingredient in governance This situation would lead to many legal battles in 2015″, he noted.

He stressed that such situation is abhorred in the CPP revealing that the party indeed recorded a first during the convention as a woman Hajara Ishiaku emerged as the Party’s National Secretary even as two women also emerged as Chairpersons in Kogi and Oyo States respectively the first of its kind in the annals of political history in Nigeria. He further revealed that two physically challenged Nigerians emerged party Chairmen for Ekiti and Ondo States respectively.
