Abia State has emerged as the first state in Nigeria to have its own Diaspora Commission.
This was sequel to the passage of a bill
to that effect, titled, “The Abians in Diaspora Commission Bill, 2020”, which was sponsored by Hon. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha representing Arochukwu state constituency in the state.
While reacting to the development yesterday, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Abia State for the feat and urged other states in the country to emulate Abia state.
Hon Dabiri-Erewa expressed the firm optimism that the commission will provide a veritable platform to tap into the enormous human resources of Abians in diaspora , who , working with Abians at home , would contribute to rapid development of the state.
In a statement in Abuja by the Head of Media and Public Relations of NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the NIDCOM boss said Abians have made history with the passage of the bill by the Abia state House of Assembly..
She congratulated Abia State for being the first state in Nigeria to have its own Diaspora Commission.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed her appreciation to the Abia Parliamentarians as well as the Diaspora friendly Governor of the state, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
She equally thanked Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Ogbonna-Erondu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters and Special Duties for her diligence and consistency in ensuring the passage of the bill.
Dabiri-Erewe urged other states in the country to “emulate Abia state as the commission will provide a veritable platform to tap into the enormous human resources of Abians in diaspora , who , working with Abians at home , would contribute to rapid development of the state”.
